He is Professor of Decision Making and Expertise at the University of Liverpool (United Kingdom), where he is conducting research on expertise, learning, memory and language acquisition. Before becoming a scientist, he was a chess player and played numerous times for the Swiss national team, including in the Chess Olympiads and the World Team Championship.
